THE CARNEGIE MELLON SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE offers a NAAB accredited five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree, and MS and PhD degrees in each of our defining areas of expertise - building performance, computational design, sustainable design, and urban design.
We have one of the oldest Master of Science and Doctoral programs in Architecture, with graduates that take leadership roles in major universities, research laboratories, industry and professional practice. Our faculty and students have over 30 years of industry, foundation and federally funded research in the areas of the Performance of Advanced Building Systems, Computational Design, and Livable Communities.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM: BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE
Carnegie Mellon's School of Architecture offers a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture degree with a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for the practice of Architecture. Students are taught to consider Architecture in relation to a variety of influences - the environment, technology, culture, context and propose innovative, holistic design solutions that advance the art and science of the profession. Consistently ranked among the top professional degree programs, Carnegie Mellon was ranked 9th by Design Intelligent Magazine's 2004 survey.
GRADUATE PROGRAM: MS AND PHD IN ARCHITECTURE
We offer six different Master's degrees in the School of Architecture: a Master of Science in Architecture; a Master of Science in Computational Design; a Master of Science in Building Performance and Diagnostics; a Master of Science in Sustainable Design; a Master of Science in Urban Design jointly with the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management (and now joined with Oxford University in England); and a Master of Science in Architecture/ Engineering/ Construction Management (jointly with Civil and Environmental Engineering). We also offer a Doctor of Philosophy degree with a concentration in Computational Design or Building Performance and Diagnostics.
RESEARCH PROGRAMS
The majority of research at Carnegie Mellon is carried out in the Graduate Program, however, there are opportunities for undergraduate research in architecture, through the School of Architecture or the Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Research Initiative.
